Modifying tomosyn in the hippocampus affects learning and memory
The protein tomosyn hinders the secretion of neurotransmitters (chemicals that help transfer information between neurons). When scientists changed the level of tomosyn in mice, there was a sharp decline in their memory and learning skills.
