Autistic toddlers don’t avoid eye contact but do miss its significance

A study of toddlers with autism has found that they don’t actively avoid eye contact, but rather look less at the eyes of others. It could be because they find it negative and stressful, or it could be because they don’t perceive social cues from the eyes as being important.
