Brain SPECT imaging can distinguish between depression and dementia
In one of the largest studies of its kind, researchers used brain SPECT imaging to look at the brains of 4,541 people. Some had depression, some had dementia and some had both. They were able to distinguish depression from cognitive decline with 86% accuracy.
