Blood biomarker may indicate severe cognitive decline progression in Parkinson’s
GBA (a genetic mutation) that leads to not only the early onset of Parkinson’s but also severe cognitive impairment (in 4-7%) also alters how certain things (like lipids) metabolize. Parkinson’s patients who don’t have the gene mutation have higher levels of these lipids in their blood. People who had Parkinson’s and the high levels were more likely to have dementia and cognitive impairment.
