Human born with brains ‘prewired’ for words
A team of researchers from Ohio State University reports that humans are born with a part of the brain that is prewired to be receptive to seeing words and letters, setting the state at birth for people to learn how to read. The scientists analyzed brain scans of newborns and found that this area of the brain—called the “visual word form area”—is connected to the language network of the brain.
