Spider venom peptide could prevent stroke-induced brain damage
A peptide called Hi1a, which is found in the venom of the Australian funnel web spider, appears to block ion channels in the brain that play a role in brain damage caused by stroke. When tested in rats, researchers found that the peptide protected the brain tissue, as well as neurological and motor function.
